TAFE (pronounced "taffy") is a statewide non-profit (501 c3) student organization led by dynamic and passionate teachers/sponsors. The organization was created in 1984 so that the best high school students in Texas would have the opportunity:
1. To learn about the teaching profession, its opportunities, responsibilities, and its important role in our democracy.
2. To explore their interests and abilities in relation to the various fields of teaching.
3. To cultivate the qualities of character, service, and leadership which are essential in good teachers.
4. To learn how and where teachers receive their training, the cost, scholarships available, number of years required, certification requirements, and standards.
5. To study the lives and influence of great teachers.
TAFE as a CTSO
TAFE is one of the nine Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) recognized by the Texas Education Agency. TAFE is proud to be the newest CTSO recognized in Texas. This recognition has not been granted to a student organization in Texas in the past 20 years!
TAFE and TASSP
TAFE is sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals and is governed by a board of directors comprised of teachers, students and principals.
National Affiliate
TAFE proudly supports the work of the Future Educator Association (FEA) and each year a delegation of TAFE's top student leaders attend the FEA National Conference to represent the lone star state.
